TAIC - 2024 New Awardee Community of Practice Summary

The 2024 Community of Practice (CoP) was designed to support newly awarded Pediatric Mental Health Care Access (PMHCA) and Screening and Treatment for Maternal Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders (MMHSUD) programs. This CoP series has been a crucial platform for fostering collaboration, sharing knowledge, and building capacity among awardees. The initiative aimed to enhance the operational frameworks and service delivery models of these programs to better address the behavioral health needs of children, youth, and their families.

AAP Advocacy Guide

Welcome to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Advocacy Guide. This guide was designed as a resource to make it easier for you to advocate on behalf of children and pediatricians. Advocacy is a priority for the AAP because it provides a way to move beyond individual solutions to create and be part of broader systemic change. In fact, advocacy is one of the top reasons pediatricians join the AAP. Through advocacy, pediatricians and resident physicians such as you can help change community norms and public policy to protect children’s health and well-being. Whether you are just beginning or you are a seasoned advocate, this guide is designed for you.


This guide will provide you with tips, tools, and real-life examples from other pediatricians regarding how to use your voice to create positive and lasting change on behalf of children’s health and well-being. Advocacy can happen in many different ways, in various settings, and at multiple levels. By engaging in advocacy, you are joining a growing number of pediatricians and pediatric residents who are motivated to act on behalf of children’s health and well-being in the broader community and public policy arena.

The MCHB TA Innovation Center is offering drop-in office hours to assist PMHCA and MMHSUD program staff with program evaluation. Subject matter experts from Windrose Vision will support your team in the planning, design, and implementation of an evaluation of your program by providing guidance on evaluation tools and strategies. A sampling of the areas of TA being offered include:

  • Spreadsheet development and data tracking 
  • Selecting primary program evaluation questions 
  • Selecting measures and instruments to align with program goals 
  • Identifying available data 
  • Collecting new data 
  • Power and sampling strategies 
  • Data analysis


This is an exciting opportunity for you to explore ideas and find solutions to your data collection challenges, as well as methods to measure outcomes for your program. This session will offer 1:1 TA while also providing an opportunity to hear challenges and solutions among peers.
